Fun-Suckers

Finished the pixel painting. My digital camera is outta batteries so I'll have to take a quality shot later. And so without further ado:

Another post about the fun-suckers at UCSB. grrrreeeaaaattttt....

Because there is nothing I like more than continuously complaining about the art department. Don't get me wrong, the professors have great points of view and have great lessons to pass on, but the projects this school requires of you are not worth it. I probably made over 50 projects last year, and I can count on one hand how many I actually consider art that I want to keep. That's disappointing. How is it that they continue to control what I want to make.

God forbid I want to do a painting just to try and increase my skills.

But, noooooo! apparently that's not what school is for!
Students should be able to make whatever they want and be graded on the effort put into the project, not the concept of it.

Imagine you doing your favorite activity that you've done for years and been commended for it, but then someone comes in a tells you how you should be doing it.

212 More days UCSB, then I'm free. I shouldn't have to count down the days until I leave college!!!

Relationships

You know, I've never had such a love/hate relationship with an inanimate object as I do with my painting right now. It's a pixelated image, and it's a 30"x40" canvas (huge) and I made a grid of 1" squares.

Math anyone? 1,200 squares

Today, 170 squares took me 2 hours. And that's just the various hues of blue. When I get to the multiple colors, and mixing each square a different color, my brain will explode.  I cannot wait till it's done, which has to be by Sunday so it can dry by Wednesday, I probably have 800-700 squares left. My eye will be twitching by the end of the week...no doubt.

On a side note, I consider myself a pretty hygienic person, but at this point, there is bound to be paint somewhere on me every day.

Mindless Fun

I started to feel weird and judged that I don't go out. That I don't like to go to clubs, or bar hopping, or house parties in this town. It seems that people use these things as reasons to escape the overbearing weight of school. But what about when you don't have that weight that needs to be lifted. I have those mindlessly fun activities that other people may see as pointless.

The problem is in order to be initiated into the Isla Vista life one has to experience playing beer-pong numerous times, going from apartment to apartment drinking, and walking to Freebirds at 4am. I've done it, and the natives approved. But then we all discovered State St. and the clubs and bars offered. I've been on that street until 2 in the morning, and it didn't hold much for me. I got to see friends that came up for the weekend, otherwise i wouldn't have bothered. So this shouldn't bug me that I am different. That I don't need that stress outlet.

I don't know, I'm going to a party tomorrow night, we'll see how that goes.
